Some great musicians performing my work this Autumn.

Pictured are the super-excellent New York vocal sextet Ekmeles, who’ve taken my 31-ET madrigal book Primo Libro to new heights recently in the studio (more on that soon…). They perform it at Sound Plasma in Tallinn on 28th September.

Next, the Frankland Quartet – based in my neck of the woods in NE England – premiere the first of six new string quartets, weatherworld quartets 1-6, in Mike Worboys’ Berwick Music Series in Berwick-upon-Tweed. More to say about these pieces too, in a later post. A complete performance of the cycle – 72 mins in total – is in the planning for 2024.

On 27th October Lucy Goddard and Siwan Rhys give the second performance of Plain Air, my 53-minute piece incorporating texts by Nan Shepherd – more about that here. Particularly nice to be able to take this to the ever-vital Sound Festival in Aberdeen, the city in which Nan Shepherd lived and worked.

And finally another premiere, a piece for solo soprano called hǽþweardere (‘heath-dweller’, or ‘one who lives among heather’) written for the extraordinary talents of Stephanie Lamprea. This one’s in Glasgow on 16th November, a programme shared with the flautist Richard Craig.

Details of these and any other new additions here.
